The felt is dense enough to actually trap the fine swarf instead of just pushing it around. Installed it on my 12-inch lathe and the saddle moves noticeably smoother now. Exactly what the rear ways needed.

Finally got the rear wiper pad installed on my bench lathe saddle, and it's already stopping chips from piling up under there. The felt is dense enough to catch fine swarf without dragging. Keeps the ways clean during longer runs.

I was worried about swarf building up under the saddle, but this felt pad fits snugly on the rear and wipes the ways clean with every pass. The material feels dense enough to last through heavy use.
