The 42-tooth engagement felt precise and positive when I swapped the old gear out; it’s a direct fit for my 8.5x20 benchtop lathe and took only about twenty minutes to install. Running a test bead on some 1-inch stock, the transition was smoother than I expected with no vibration whatsoever.

Had me worried when I first unboxed it because the finish looked a bit rough, but once installed on the 8.5x20 bench lathe it meshed smoothly and the 42 teeth engage exactly where they should. Feels like a solid replacement part that should hold up fine.

Had a hard time finding a replacement transition gear that actually fit my bench lathe, but this 42-tooth one dropped right in with no filing or forcing. The machining on the teeth looks clean and the bore measured exactly to spec, so it meshes smoothly with the existing gears.
