Finally got this feature working on my mill and it's a game changer for threading. Having the spindle drop to half RPM and reverse automatically makes tapping so much more controlled and consistent.

I was a little skeptical about how well the half-speed reverse would work for tapping, but after a few test runs I'm really impressed with the control it gives. The RPM drop is instant and makes threading much smoother than I expected.
