The ball bearings definitely help the follower glide smoothly over the work without snagging. I’ve noticed fewer drag marks on my finished pieces since switching to this rest. Makes a noticeable difference for finer lathe work.

The ball bearings roll so smoothly that the workpiece doesn’t even show a faint swirl line after a long pass. I set it up in about ten minutes and it holds the stock steady without any chatter, which is exactly what I needed for thin shafts.

I was a bit skeptical about the bearings making a difference, but they glide so smoothly that my workpiece came out with hardly any friction marks at all.
