DIY Finger Conversion Kit, Ball Bearing

Took an afternoon to drill and tap my existing fingers to #10-32, and the cap screws seated cleanly through the bearings with a simple press. The whole assembly spins so much smoother now, no more chatter on long shafts. Just wish the instructions had a clearer diagram for the lock step.

The arbor press method worked perfectly for seating those cap screws through the bearings, and the #10-32 tap threads cut cleanly into my existing fingers. Took about an hour total and now the steady rest spins smooth as glass with zero chatter.

Finally, a steady rest that doesn’t leave witness marks on my work – the ball bearings roll smoothly. Installation was straightforward with my arbor press, and the cap screw fit the bearing perfectly.
