This is a semi-machined adapter plate. The side that attaches to the lathe flange is fully machined. The side on which the lathe chuck mounts is not finished.

Mount the backplate adapter on your lathe and complete machining of the chuck-mounting side. This ensures two things; that it will fit your chuck, and that it is concentric on your lathe.

* Note Don't forget to purchase the appropriate set of Studs & Nuts to accommodate changes in chuck or adapter configurations.

The flange side bolted up to my lathe dead true, so all I had to do was skim the chuck side to fit my 4" chuck. Took maybe twenty minutes of facing and it runs with barely any runout now.

Wasn't sure about buying a semi-machined plate, but the flange side bolted right up with zero runout. You do need to face the chuck side yourself, which took me about an hour on the mill, but once done it runs true. Solid casting, no surprises.
