Hand taps are the most commonly used general purpose tap. They are recommended for tapping free machining steels, stainless steels, aluminum, zinc, and ductile materials.

Plug taps have 3-5 chamfered threads and are utilized in either through or blind hole tapping.

The High-Speed Steel (HSS) construction gives good wear-resistance.

Avery ★★★★★

The chamfered starting edges on these plug taps made a huge difference when I had to chase threads in a steel bracket. They cut cleanly without that annoying wobble I usually get from cheaper taps. Definitely worth the price for the precision.

Stella Y. ★★★★★

That five-pack of metric plug taps cut through my aluminum stock like butter, easily cleaning up threads that a cheaper tap would have mangled. The chamfered tip started straight without any wobbling. Exactly the precision I needed for a jig build.

George Z. ★★★★★

I was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly these cut through some 316 stainless I had sitting around. The 3-5 chamfered plug style really helps start the thread cleanly without wobbling.
